Indorama Ventures Xylenes & PTA organized the “America Recycles Project” to promote recycling
Indorama Ventures Xylenes & PTA (IVXP) initiated a project “America Recycles”, promoting the importance of recycling and aiming to increase recycling rates in Decatur, Alabama. The project was rolled out for 6th and 7th grade students in schools nearby IVL facilities.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19, the program reached over 750 local students on-site. Learning about the importance of recycling in the school auditorium and encouraging them to be “Recycle Ambassadors” in their homes, school, and communities. During a 5-week period, the program incorporated several competitions and activities with prizes to boost participation. Throughout this program the students collected 6,482 pounds of recyclable materials and over 1,227 pounds of PET bottles.
This project marked the 5th year of efforts between the Partners in Education team and IVXP, which remain a long-term partnership with local schools. It also aligns with IVL’s CSR objective of enhancing recycling awareness by providing knowledge and increasing engagement with students.
