Bangkok, 9 December 2024 - Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, a global sustainable chemical company and world’s largest recycler of PET, is proud to be Thailand’s first ‘full Circularity’ Recycling Partner for 808 Festival 2024 – sponsoring and recycling 500ml PET Bottles from the event, ensuring three quarters of a ton of waste was diverted from the environment and made into new PET bottles.
Held on December 6-8, 2024, at BITEC Bangna, the iconic electronic music festival hosted more than 40,000 fans over three to the best international acts, uniting with Indorama Ventures to be a circular-economy partner to ensure the event’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Indorama Ventures supplied festival attendees with tens of thousands of PET water bottles made from recycled PET (rPET) resin under its Deja™ sustainable brand. To ensure seamless recycling, the company created a festival inspired 9.6m³ ‘Recycling Cube’ in the food and beverage zone, enabling easy and interactive waste disposal. The dedicated PET drop points, and on-site staff educated festivalgoers on waste separation and recycling, fostering active participation in the sustainability initiative.
The collected PET bottles were then transported to Indorama Ventures’ PET recycling plant in Nakhon Pathom. Using its advanced closed-loop recycling process, the bottles were transformed back into rPET, completing the circular economy model. This initiative not only showed innovative recycling technology but also allowed the event to deliver sustainability impacts: including CO2 reduction and waste diverted from landfills.
Yash Lohia, Chairman of ESG Council at Indorama Ventures, said “At Indorama Ventures, we are passionate about weaving sustainability into everyday experiences and educating younger Thai generations that recycling is easy, necessary and can be part of their own sustainability journey. Our partnership with the 808 Festival combines recycling innovation with the power of music to inspire and educate young people. This collaboration reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship while supporting local arts and culture. Together with our partners, we’re shaping a more sustainable future, one PET bottle at a time. We are proud to be part of Thailand’s first full-loop recycling event activation, demonstrating how we can integrate impactful environmental practices into all aspects of our lifestyles.”
Arsit Prachaseri, Retox Sessions’ Founder and Organizer of the 808 Festival, emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating, “Our collaboration with Indorama Ventures aligns perfectly with our vision of creating impactful and sustainable events. By integrating recycling initiatives into the festival experience, we aim to raise awareness about environmental responsibility among our attendees while delivering an unforgettable celebration of music and culture.
This cooperation highlights ongoing Indorama Ventures’ creative approach to engaging with communities through unique cultural platforms. By integrating sustainability into an event that celebrates music, arts, and culture, the company is inspiring a younger generation to take action for the planet. The initiative aligns with Indorama Ventures’ ambitious goal of educating one million people on waste management and PET recycling by 2030.
