Textilcord launches production of surgical masks in Luxembourg
The Textilcord plant, located in Steinfort (Luxembourg), has invested in a production line for surgical masks which will produce 20 million pieces per year. As an Indorama Ventures company, Textilcord contributes to relieve shortages during the COVID--19 crisis by relocating the manufacture of these masks, which are essential for protection. Thanks to a new technology developed in Luxembourg, the company envisions to produce innovative masks, which can directly neutralize viruses on them.
Since 1965, the Textilcord plant has specialized in the manufacture of dipped fabrics used for tires reinforcement. For several years, it has served the largest players in the sector, contributing with its 130 employees to the manufacture of tires mainly intended for passenger cars. In June 2020, considering the needs raised by the health crisis, this IVL company considered producing surgical masks. “At the height of the crisis, in spring of 2020, the leaders of European countries saw the need to reduce dependency on external sources to supply surgical masks, essential to guarantee the protection of everyone, starting with medical personnel.” explains Céline Vuarnesson, Managing Director of Textilcord Steinfort SA. “We wanted to respond to the European desire to relocate the manufacture of these products and guarantee local supply."
